Problem number TWOOk, you can say: I have 5.1 surround, I want to play like GOD! Suck my binary code! - This game will answer. Even if you have 5.1 it's not save you from troubles, because this game has wrong sound mapping. What is this mean? When it plays cinematic video clip, all sound are shifted to left, so voice which must to sound from central channel is sound from left channel, left channel sounds from rear left, rear left from subwoofer! I've done big investigation and work.
Result - this big patch Copy link in the adress bar, and add 'h' letter to the beginning If you play on 5.1 sound system - your problem is solved at this stage! But if you play on stereo system, you must move on to the next chapter. How to fix sound on Stereo systemsWhen you play on stereo, 80% of sound is reproducing from the right speaker. This happens because game can't perform correct downsampling from 5.1 to Stereo (it looks like KONAMI doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥t about betatesting at all). So the only solution is to trick the game with special sound driver.

I got an imported version of Silent Hill Homecoming for PC and, well, I tried it a few days ago, liked the graphics, and basically only got to save 3 times and then, lag spikes, and then, jittery sound effects, then bam, it crashes. So, here im thinking, my PC has overheated and couldn't handle the game, I didn't quite know, so I checked the PC requirements, and my PC passes. And, here I am thinking, what the heck is wrong with this then? So I lug Silent Hill homecoming up again, shows the logos, shows the menu, and a few blackened textures, then, I play up until you see Josh rejecting the Robbie Rabbit, and then, lag spikes, then, it showed your main character in a truck or something, then, Silent Hill.exe has received an error bla bla bla. In one conclusion - This port is absolutely ridiculous, not only does it not feature updated graphics than its console counterparts, it has dumb control schemes (try configuring the game for a Logitech Dual Action Gamepad, you can't map the right analog stick to anything), glitches galore, and lag spikes and a crash that makes the game unplayable. I have XP as well, so I put it down compatibility mode thinking, its worth a try, nothing, so, I changed Video Settings in the game, nope, still crashed, set res down, set audio off, set widescreen off, and it still does it. It just keeps crashing at that same bit everytime.
And oh such a good thing is, there are absolutely no patches available for the game, I have searched high and low for a Silent Hill Homecoming patch, and there is just, nothing, I tried desperately even attempting my luck at a NoCD fixed EXE that includes something that is even close to a patch, and yet nothing. Accordingly Konami and Double Helix made some sort of patch that is applied when the game is connected to the internet, and yet, that doesn't seem to happen with me. There are no downloadable patches either (if you have a patch for the game, oh please give me a link, it may fix it).
But, simply, Silent Hill just went downhill ever since Team Silent Hill stopped making the games, and also, whoever did the first ports of the Silent Hill 2 and 3, did a marvelous job, they worked fine, yet, with Silent Hill 4 and 5, they were hurried out, and ported poorly, it just, sucks how you pay money for a game ($45) and you get to, look at it for 15 minutes before crashing, I have sent an email to Double Helix games (well, I am pretty sure I have emailed them correctly) so maybe I get a response. However at the moment I am fairly angry at the outcome of all of this however. Another Silent Hill game in the series seemed like an ok from me, so I gave it a go, and there we have it. Now, I doubt I will go and get the Xbox 360 version as, its a Cut Version here for our lovely MA15+ ratings (Ahh go to hell OFLC) and, so, we miss out on our console versions receiving the full effect we should've gotten, thats why I preffered the PC version, and not realizing its a blunder port.
Other PC games have had their cruddy ports and unofficial helplines to making them run more effeciently however, this game has bit the dust and has ultimately been giving a Fail. I could download a save file, however, that just, ruins the effect of the game, and I miss out on so much. But even still, with another save game, who knows what other effects and glitches will we face within a certain time of playing the game. And to see Double Helix is notorious for having other Console to PC ports on their websites, it makes you think, are all PC ports really that bad? Its like a debate with GTAIV for PC, I have that, I have played it on my system, it runs at about 10 FPS, unfortunately, and, thats something we have to deal with, it needs a Quad system, as its optimized for that, I have the 360 version, and comparing the 2 seems unbelievable at times. I just wonder, will Crysis see a Console port, its the same philosophy, a Console to PC port is likely to turn out crap, however, a PC to Console port may or may not retain the same effects of the PC version, who knows. I just wish that more hard work is put into PC ports, as, many of us out there are PC gamers, if this continues in the industry the PC porting will just, disappear and we will be left with PC only games, or, PC made for games.

Also, im not talking about like, PS3, 360 and PC versions released at same time, as they are made, sort of seperately, im talking about the fact about a game released for consoles, getting a port by using the same thing as the 360 version, a complete port, and not an actual PC version on its standalone grounds. Ahh enough of my rant, just throwing in my hate for PC ports. Although also I can say there are some good PC ports out there, but others are just.:( And quickly, if you DO happen to have a Silent Hill Homecoming Patch, please be sure to give me a link to it as I am pretty keen on giving the game a well tried out go, but if lag spikes and a crash stop me from playing, then, stuff that then:(. There is a patch (maybe more by now?) Konami today released a patch for the PC-DVD version of Silent Hill Homecoming. The patch resolves an issue caused by changing screen resolutions, and will be automatically downloaded and applied when the game is run while connected to the Internet. the game uses steam in all territories (except i think russia) with steam games the patch is not made available to third party hosting sites.
So if you did have an original version you would have had the update applied automatically, or at least known about it, or been able to update it. So maybe you iz pirate? (not an accusation, rather a question.) is your 'version' via steam?
